Next steps in a New Global Macro Fund

I graduated in June with an Economics degree and am working now as a full-time intern in a small GM fund with AUM of about 25 million. I was hired to do fundamentals research since the fund invests mainly in ETFs and my PM believes it's important to understand macro trends. Most of the time I write reports (we have an in-house country risk rating) and develop new macro-forecasting ideas (the yield curve and whatnot). I think i'm getting a master's in two years since I actually didn't have much macro exposure in college and lack proper quant skills.

My firm is very new (1.5 year old) and we don't even have the budget to hire an experienced macro person to deal with the fundamentals side, which is why I'm still an intern though doing very much full-time work. I like the research work I'm doing, but feel quite helpless at times since I don't even know if the work I'm doing is "right." I look at economic indicators and regularly read blogs, however would really appreciate help/guidance at work from senior people in the field. This why I'm thinking of moving since my firm will probably not have the capacity to hire someone experienced any time soon.

Any thoughts on how I should move forward? Should I stay at the firm while brushing up skills? If so, what kind of skills? I like doing macro analysis and would like to stay in the field. Please feel free to throw questions at me. I just discovered WSO and was really impressed by the threads here.

Thanks in advance.
