NYC Commuters

Curious to hear what other options outside of the usual Jersey City/Hoboken options there are for people who commute to NYC. I know the destination (midtown vs, lower) is a big factor, but just in general terms. Looking to make a work move into NYC and currently live in central/southern NJ so would need to relocate. Anything that is a reasonable commute and not over priced?

Midtown or downtown? East side or west (especially in midtown) The advice will hugely hinge on that. An awesome commute to WTC could involve an extra 45 minutes each way if you had to get to Rockefeller Center.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

If you work in FiDi, I would say anywhere in NJ near Atlantic Highlands and the high speed ferry. It is something like 40 min on the water, and hour plus on a cramped train or with traffic.

It is not cheap, but living in Atlantic Highland area might offset the cost.

New Rochelle or Yonkers is great because you can take the train right into Grand Central, if you work in midtown.
