NYC Rental Market
Got absolutely hosed by my landlord and getting pushed out of my apartment. Looks like a decent sized one bed will run at least $4k - what the hell is going on out there? Pre-covid was nowhere near as bad as this from what I remember. I'd probably leave the city if I wasn't in-office and surprised fully remote folks are eating this kind of rent increase.
Nothing new, this has been going on since last fall / been all over the news, and it's just starting to cool down a bit. But yeah, under $4k is going to be a tough ask for a nice 1 bedroom. Even at these prices open houses are out the door with 15 apps on any given unit and bidding wars all over the place, so of course they will push the prices as high as they can.
A lot of fully remote people I know have moved to Jersey or BK/Queens for more space, or away from the city fully.
