NYC Roommate Needed for 3-Bed/2-Bed Flex (July Move-In)
Hey everyone, my college buddy and I are looking for a third person to search for an apartment together. We are looking for anywhere in NYC Midtown and below and would consider LIC.
We're looking for the nicest buildings possible with as many amenities as possible. Our budget together is ~4.5K so we will look for apartments in the price range of ~4.5K + the rent you are willing to pay.
- Good views + Sun
- In-Unit Washer Dryer (Ok with Laundry Room)
- Gym
- 1 of Golf Sim/Pool/Basketball (Ok without)
- Near subway
Send me a DM if interested in being our third in the search. Thanks!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips and insights for your search:
Popular Neighborhoods: Midtown and below, including Murray Hill, Gramercy, and FiDi, are highly recommended for young professionals. Long Island City (LIC) is also a great option due to its proximity to Midtown and slightly lower cost of living.
Budget Considerations: With a combined budget of ~$4.5K plus the third roommate's contribution, you should be able to find a high-quality apartment with amenities. For reference, apartments in Murray Hill/Gramercy range from $1.5K-$2.25K per person with roommates, depending on the building and amenities.
Amenities: Many newer buildings in these areas offer gyms, pools, and other amenities like golf simulators or basketball courts. However, these features may push the rent higher, so prioritize based on your budget.
Timing: NYC's rental market moves quickly. It's best to start actively searching about a month before your move-in date. Be prepared to act fast, as apartments can be taken within hours of being listed.
Lease Requirements: Ensure you have the necessary documents ready, such as proof of income (40-65x monthly rent) or a guarantor (100x monthly rent). You'll also need funds for the first month's rent, security deposit, and potentially a broker fee (usually 15% of annual rent).
Subway Access: Prioritize locations near subway lines for convenience, especially if you're considering LIC, as it offers quick access to Midtown.
If you're looking for a third roommate, consider posting on platforms like WSO's roommate threads or other housing forums to connect with like-minded individuals. Good luck with your search!
