Off-Cycle Housing & Roommates

Hey everyone, I find myself in a strange situation because I start a full-time gig this January. Given this offset with the rest of analyst classes that start in July, it's a bit tougher to find roommates. I figured this would be a good place to ask for help since the forum never disappoints. Anyone know places where I can search for roommates and housing? My office is in lower Manhattan. Or if you're in a similar situation, let me know. I’m a guy btw Thanks

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some suggestions for finding roommates and housing in NYC, especially if you're starting in January:

  1. WSO Roommate Threads:

    • NYC Analyst Housing Meltdown: This thread discusses the challenges of finding affordable housing in NYC and includes comments from users looking for roommates starting in January. You can drop a comment there to connect with others in a similar situation.
    • 2021 FT Roommate Thread: Although this thread is from 2021, it provides a format for posting your roommate search details, which you can replicate in a new thread or comment on existing ones.
  2. General Tips:

    • Roommate Search: Post your requirements on forums like Wall Street Oasis, specifying your start date, budget, and preferred neighborhoods.
    • Housing Options: Look for studio apartments in the $2,100 to $2,200 range, though be prepared for limited options as noted in the NYC Analyst Housing Meltdown thread.
  3. Specific Recommendations:

    • NYU Dorms: Often recommended for interns and analysts, though availability may be limited.
    • Sublets and AirBnB: Consider subletting an apartment or sharing an AirBnB with a few roommates to reduce costs.
  4. Neighborhoods:

    • Lower Manhattan: Since your office is in Lower Manhattan, focus on neighborhoods like FiDi (Financial District), which is known to be quieter and might have suitable options.
