Personal real-estate investing?

Recently found out I'm getting the opportunity to get directly on the partner track. Starting to think about finances now. Getting close to 1mm across cash and equities. What is Real Estate investing actually like and is it worth it for somewhere like me? Worth the hassle? I have no fix-it / DIY lifestyle experience and could not fix the most basic thing in a house if I wanted to. Definitely gonna hire a property manager if I go down this route. So does it outperform equities significantly (only way I'm gonna fuck with it)? Has it been worth it on here for anyone from a similar no-experience background? I've heard the largest benefits come in the form of tax-advantaged savings but not sure. I would be going down the multifamily rentals route probably
