all stores have had people camp out overnight. I know someone who's been camped out in front of best buy for 2 days now.

Why people do it? Profit, like you said they go like hot cakes on ebay.

Why they sell so high on ebay? Supply and demand, Sony is releasing very few of these, each store gets like 15

some people are the type that "MUST HAVE IT!"

why sony releases so few? To build up the hype. Think about it 99% of the systems sold in the stores will end up on ebay, you people will have to pay 2 grand just to get one.

So very few people will have it, and when Sony restocks their PS3s, they'll fly off the shelves. And on and on, until everyone who wanted a PS3 had it.

Personally paying 600 bucks(or 3000 in some people's cases) is retarded, you can have a top of the line computer that'll be able to do a TON of stuff more than the PS3 for that kind of money

The PS3 is also the cheapest blu-ray player on the market at the moment. Last time I checked a top of the line computer runs more then 600 dollars and does your 600 dollar computer play blu-ray?

PUTNAM, Connecticut (AP) -- Two armed thugs tried to rob a line of people waiting for the new Playstation 3 game system to go on sale early Friday and shot a man who refused to give up his money, authorities said. In other states, customers pushed and shoved their way to the shelves to get at the limited supply, and in Kentucky, four people were grazed by BBs fired from a passing vehicle as they waited for a Best Buy store to open.

The two gunman in Putnam, Connecticut, confronted 15 to 20 people standing outside a Wal-Mart store shortly after 3 a.m. and demanded money, said State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance.

you do realize it was probably someone with a 0 feedback account, just messing with the seller?

do you even use blu-ray? Blu-ray is supposed to be this god awesome thing...but why is sony not using it to its full potential? " posted a long list of padding files on the Resistance disk; the padding took up approximately 17.75GB of space. Padding is frequently used to push data to the outer edges of the disk to improve read times, but Blu-ray is supposed to be a constant read over the entire disk."

There is absolutely no need for Playstation to have blu-ray, very few people are willing to pay 600 bucks for a video gaming console, yes it may have blu-ray, but they are selling a gaming console, people don't want to pay a premium for something they don't plan to use, so you lose to competition who have a similiar product for much less.

If noone is willing why is the market value of a PS3 around $1000K on ebay? Blu-Ray is next gen for High def movies and sound. If someone wants to play high-def games or movies on their $3k plasma, they wont think twice about a $600 PS3, imho

its hype, all consoles retail that high when they first come. Look at xbox, no bluray but still pulled a premium on ebay.

Blu-ray is next gen because Sony says it is. Sony had a whole lot of failed formats, there is no reason to believe that blu-ray will be succesful + half the people don't even have their HD hooked up correctly.

Yes they won't think about $600 PS3 when they own a 3K plasma...but here is a newsflash, most people don't own 3k plasmas, so they'll be perfectly happy buying a Wii for less, especially when Wii is a brand new type of gaming(that whole action thing), and the games on PS3 is the same recycled crap with better graphics.

It's not next-gen because sony says it is, its because it is next generation, i.e. one after the last. True time will tell whether the agreed upon standard is HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, but until then for people that care about having the highest quality image and sound, blu-ray is one of the ways to go. I am not debating whether bluray or hd will win, all i am saying is that it is next-gen. And I am not sure where you got the information that most people don't have their hd setup hooked up properly

i think that ps3 will suffer because it is priced much higher than other comparable systems released around the same time....now the wii, that is excellent
