[Rant] Why does everything need your email and phone number???

I'm quite annoyed that every single thing requires your email and phone number for no other purpose than to spam ads or share useless "updates" surrounding their corporate products or other crap.

Literally everything... I can't buy jeans without BlueNotes asking for a phone number or ChatGPT forcing me to login with SMS verification just to try their platform. Like how am I the outlier for not wanting to be spammed? I get annoyed enough by spam callers calling me to the point that I've missed headhunter phone calls and HR chats who, for some reason, don't have caller ID or call from private numbers. Now I can't even buy a goddamn pair of jeans without having to get a fake phone number on standby?

For what purpose do they even require multi-factor authentication for some of this stuff? Some hacker will be so obsessed with my HBR credentials providing two free articles, that he will hack my email and phone number?

I'm at a loss for words with how thoroughly some of this processes are built and how it literally crafts a negative connotation with their products.

*Ahem* Mr Politely Agree to Disagree has entered the room.

MFA on the other hand? That's legit and has real purpose. Sure, some of it seems a bit exorbinate depending on the situation. And those callers? If they're worth anything they'll leave a message so you'd want to call them back.

Sorry for necroing. But I don't mind the spamming. They require email and phone numbers for safety, and this is what I want for my accounts: to be safe.
