Renting in NYC: Friend wants 2 bathrooms, I want 1
My friend and I are planning to room together in NYC once we begin our jobs in IB. I was looking to rent either a 2 bed, 1 bath (as I did during my summer internship with another acquaintance), but my friend wants to do a 2 bed, 2 bath to have his own bathroom (for privacy, cleanliness, personal routine, etc.)
I would prefer not to have to pay $350 more in rent, this would mean I would have to pay $4.2k per year extra just for an extra bathroom (implying I would need to make an extra $8.4k in NYC since the government takes half in taxes).
My friend is partially unwilling to negotiate on this... I understand why 2 bathroom is important and I’ve never really shared a bathroom in my life tbh, but still, most people just do 2 bed and 1 bath (like my friends who also do IB in NYC). We are also friends, therefore we have respect for each other to keep it clean.
I told him that we are gonna be spending a good chunk of our time outside of home anyways so 2 bathrooms may not be necessary, and I expect that as friends, we will keep our shit clean.
I’m super picky, he’s super picky—please give me your thoughts / pieces of advice!
350 a month def worth it for extra bathroom
Fr. also y'all probably wake up / shower / head to the office around the same time, and worth having separate bathrooms to avoid the headache of figuring out timing stuff
Is this a sh*tpost? Nowadays kids are fucking posting about this shit? while there are war crimes happening in the world?
To OP - you should be more worried about getting ur priorities in check and not being a little b*tch.. if this is a SRS concern for you, reevaluate and find a new career asap.
potentially look into budget planning analyst roles with CFA. Just my $0.02.
least obvious Jaden Smith burner account
It has to be - like the tax calculation is so unnecessary and over the top.
I see your point but your alternative is basically to find a new roommate... some people really do want their own bathroom, and living with someone you know and like is worth $350
Also the tax rate is more like 30% not 50%, it's definitely not $8k per year...
Do the extra bathroom. It’s well worth the money.
-ex-roommate of a very hairy dude
Seems like OP likes to hear his roommate shit
OP is the type of guy to knock on the bathroom door when his buddy is in the shower and say "it's ok, I just gotta take a quick sh*t, don't mind me!"
I’ve lived alone since 2020 - just simpler as I moved to the city off-cycle of my friend group. If I got a roommate I would only do a 2br2b. Massive jump in quality of life to not jockey on timing showers and getting ready if you both leave for work around the same time.
I'm dating someone, and we live in a 2br/1ba. Even when privacy isn't a concern sharing a bathroom while getting ready in the morning isn't fun. Get the 2 bathroom, you won't regret spending the money.
you're gonna be working 80 hour weeks bro treat urself to your own bathroom
If either of you has girlfriends over, 1 BA is a disaster. What kind of sick human desires 1 bathroom for multiple people?
