Excited to see how the last race of the season will play out. Hopefully there will be no intentional crashes, since this season brings back memories of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, but hard to say given the animosity between Verstappen and Hamilton. Would be a shame if both retired early, but glad to the championship come down to the wire. Who do you guys have as taking it home?

FIA handled it in the worst way possible. They want to see this come down to the wire and are inconsistent in their rulings during the race. (Fan of neither driver).

Shouldn't race there again w/o track adjustments. Someone is going to die, there was a crash in every race this weekend.

Thats not how it happened. I did research on this and watched sec by sec replays. Here is what happened:

  • Max gets punished and is radioed that he must allow Hamilton to overtake
  • Max pushes to the side, but he is an aggressive driver and was waiting to be in DRS so he could quickly overtake Hamilton. Max was essentially waiting for Hamilton to pass by and then quickly shove in so he could overtake Hamilton on the next DRS.
  • Lewis WAS NOT aware that he was allowed to overtake Max. He was literally radioed in that he is allowed to pass right as he crashed into the back of Max. Huge communication error. Clearly not Hamilton's fault. He would have no real reason to believe Max was letting him pass unless it was told to him.

Huge communication screwup for the FIA. I think FIA should bear the blame first and Max second. Lewis was not told anything and he was confused throughout the whole race. Max is a great driver, but dude is reckless and on a track this dangerous, he should be careful. Lewis won with grace (and a broken front wing) against a reckless driver and a bunch of shithead stewards who couldn't communicate at all. I loved the ending during the trophy awards where Lewis still celebrates with Bottas, while Max walks off like a little bitch.

I watched the race too.

Masi/FIA told RB & Merc the situation. RB told Max to do it immediately and Merc didn't immediately tell Lewis. That is not RB or Max's issue. Why should Max be punished for Merc not communicating to their driver?

Max clearly gets off the racing line out of turn (27?), moves to the middle of the track (allowing Lewis to pass on inside or outside), and slows the car down (confirmed by FIA in the writeup). After slowing down (I believe he was sub-200kmh) for a noticeable period of time, he brakes harder to make it clear he is giving up the position. This is when contact happens. This is also what caused the FIA to give him the penalty for basically "brake-checking" Lewis.

Lewis officially says he doesn't pass because he was confused/being brake checked. Nonsense. He didn't pass because he didn't want Max to have DRS. But Lewis doesn't get to pick and choose how and when Max gives up position. Max was giving up position and Lewis chose not to take it. It is irrelevant whether he was told to or not.

If you are a racing driver and an opportunity to pass someone comes up, you don't wait to hear from your team if its okay. You just take the opportunity. And that's when both drivers are going full-tilt. Max is clearly slowing down & moves off the racing line.

Lewis being confused is an incredibly soft excuse

This is the first season I've been following in real time (h/t netflix) and it's truly incredible taking in the level of drama, with this weekend being the perfect example.  I'm a long way from being a diehard and really can't opine on who is in the right or whether the FIA handled things correctly, but yesterday was unbelievable.  HIGH DRAMA

- Max dumping the car in the closing corners of a qualifying lap that would have had him on pole

- Pace car strategy, Max getting a break by staying out and then getting the red flag to change tires

- Max forcing his way into every gap (even those that don't exist)

- Lewis/Bottas playing games with the restarts

- Max/Lewis playing games with the spot relinquishment

- Max/Lewis colliding

- Ocon trying to play spoiler (side note, for those watching on ESPN, how in the world do they not show the Ocon/Bottas last lap battle in real time??)

ALL THAT + more which results in Lewis and Max being EXACTLY tied going into the last race.  Vince McMahon couldn't write a story like this.  As a casual, you couldn't ask for more entertainment.

Lol yea the coverage on Bottas v Ocon was annoying. It was a great matchup and the only thing they showed was Hamilton who was like 7 secs ahead of Max in the last two laps. Very poor camera work.

Great race! To me the coverage in the US didn't show enough of the other racers other than Max and Lewis. I am rooting for Lewis, though my favorite driver is Danny Ric. Shoutout to those bois from Haas too.

You can subscribe directly from F1TV online. There you get to see all the races from the last two years or so. I cannot depend on the TV networks for my sport.

Yeah, I keep getting S!it, hit at me for voicing my observation of the race. I say it again, he tried twice to cheat his way to the championship yesterday. He has gotten away with a lot this season.

Call me petty, but I'm ok watching Hamilton getting wrecked out of a race. You might even say, double points, if it took him out of championship contention. Not wishing injury on the kid, but just put that smug attitude of his in place.

Smug? Not defending him but honestly respect this guy more than Max for sure. Max seems like an utter prick. He's rude and an asshole of a driver that has no regard for others. In all honesty I'd rather if Bottas won it all (obviously not going to happen), the nicest guy around that's had the worst luck. Watch the train wreck that's about to happen at Merc when Russell comes in next year. Bottas was a huge help to Lewis throughout the years.

F1 is so commercial wow Saudi is a disgusting POS right wing Islamic terrorist country run by radical Jihadis and journalist killing royal family. Most of the target audience of F1 tend to be in the world's upper income bracket and generally sophisticated.

How the F they can engage with SA and go racing is beyond me. I know ARAMCO is their sponsor but it is sickening and stomach churning.

On one hand Hamilton does BLM and he talks about the crowd in Saudi Arabia. Hamilton in Saudi Arabia people who look like you are usually seen as suspect for being of African origin.
