Signing Bonus Payout

Thinking about this for tax purposes, when firms pay bonuses, are they a separate payment that is not combined with regular wages, or is it one big paycheck for that single payout? I know this can vary firm by firm, but I'm trying to project my tax burden from a signing bonus and end of year bonus. Thanks all!

don’t know about signing bonus exactly, but for regular bonus, I’ve heard it’s a one time separate check and gets taxed more than salary bc the gov sees it as a “separate wage” if that makes any sense. feel that it’s similar for signing bonus but don’t know for sure

Yeah it is withheld at a higher rate but it can get more complicated if it's lumped into a regular paycheck which is why I'm trying to figure this out. I'm sure it is similar for signing bonus if I had to guess

I'm not sure how your bank treats signing bonuses, but mine is in the form of a forgivable loan with a minimum working term of one year. I am currently a graduating senior in college, so I'm pretty sure this means that I will not be taxed on it until 2026, as that satisfies the forgiveness and therefore it is then recognized as income.
