Skiing is better in the Rockies, but can't beat the scenery, food, and apres scene in the Alps. Zermatt is good, and you can somewhat affordably hire Air Zermatt to take you up to Monte Rosa heli-skiing. Any of the main towns in the Three Valleys are also great (Courchevel if you want froof, Val Thorens for the party (Fouly Douce, etc), and Meribel for a decent mix of the two). Chamonix is also an awesome town, and you have endless backcountry opportunities there.

The Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt is a classic route for a reason. Feel like anybody that calls themselves a skier should do it before they die.

Skiing in Europe is very different than in North America, it's not like here in the US where the entire area within a resort's boundaries are relatively safe and considered to be avalanche controlled, in Europe "off-piste" means you're skiing in an area that has no avalanche control, and you should be experienced with that kind of terrain and have avalanche gear with you... if not, hire a guide for your group. This could be a bummer for those expecting to ski some of the wild terrain in the Alps, and then getting there and realizing the area isn't as accessible as you thought. Make sure you know all the differences. The alpine skiing in the Alps is world class, and I recommend you get a solid guide for your group (or join one) and get some good back-country gear and go exploring.

Second this. Also, with how busy seemingly everything major resort was last year, would highly recommend investing in a good beacon, shovel, probe, and backpack and get in the backcountry. If you have those things and know how to use them, you can escape the crowds in North America and get the best possible experiences in SA, Europe, and Japan.

Funniest

Reminds me of the classic joke.

Three guys were in a cabin after a long day of their ski trip. They were so exhausted that they crashed quickly on one king size bed. Two of the guys dreamed they were getting the best hand jobs. The guy who slept in the middle dreamed he was skiing.
