Statutes of Limitations - Old Payroll Check - New York
Anyone know how long one has to cash in a paycheck in NY before statutes of limitations kick in?
My first paycheck back from my first role in New York was issued by check, and auto-deposit thereafter. I discovered a ~$500 check laying around back from Feb 2013 and want to know if I am entitled for a reissued check, or if my employer has the right to deny the request. Would appreciate if anyone has thoughts on this.
Company checks are usually 90-180 days. You can contact your employer to stop payment and issue a new check.
Of course the company would have to reissue the check.
My question is: after 3 years of not cashing in that payroll check, are they even obligated to reissue a new check, or is there some statute of limitations that states uncashed payroll amounts expire after ___ years?
