Stay home
In Sunday’s WH briefing officials, including trump, conceded that there are likely going to be more than 100,000 American deaths from COVID-19.
"If we can hold that number down ... to 100,000, it's a horrible number, maybe even less ... we all, all together have done a very good job," Trump said
The only way to reduce that number is to stay home. The only way for our economy to recover is to manage the COVID-19 situation. Management means testing, providing medical supplies, and informing the public.
There are other threads that still downplay the risk. Now that trump has acknowledged that there are expected to be 100,000 deaths minimum, it’s time for everyone to get serious about staying home for the next few weeks.
stay at home... or stay in hospital. I got Covid in London. I took plenty of precautions, but UK is shitshow. No one was staying home. So instead of 2 weeks at home, I get to spend 2 weeks in the hospital. So... stay at home kids.
What was it like? How old are you (roughly) and did you have any medical priors?
Please give details
Do a Q&A. Seen some on Blind.
From what I read, it’s a toss up between having mild allergies and being visited by the Grim Reaper in a matter of days.

I actually do have an AMA on it... mostly to pass the time in hospital. TBH it's not bad. Most flu is much worse. I had mild dry cough, and then 2 days when it absolutely beat the living shit out of me. But other than those 2 days I was asymptomatic. So, like a pretty quick flu overall. I'm generally in good health, 42, no medical priors. What has been the real journey is this hospital stay, where it's a cross between a fraternity, a stay-away camp with 30 year olds, and a prison. We tell jokes, make s'mores (eat chocolate and crackers), and wait for time to pass. And every day the nurses come in and probe our noses with sticks, give us prison food, and medicate us. So.... not exactly like camp.
Agree that people should stay home (for the sake of flattening the curve) but how many of those 100k would have passed away of natural causes this year? Of the flu, the cold or of other respiratory illness or opportunistic infections? That 100k figure is presented without any context, as though this virus is creeping up on 100k randos and offing them.
Keep telling yourself bro

As an aside, there are >2 million deaths annually for the 65y+ population, so there is a lot of overlap here
Majority of cases of HCWs who are getting very sick are due to something called cytokine release syndrome, which can be attributed to viral load (increased exposure to viable virus = increased viral load). A cytokine storm is unpredictable and can happen with ANY infectious disease (and some of the more effective cancer treatments) and is not some phenomenon that is exclusive to Covid. If you aren’t being constantly exposed to confirmed cases (like 8 hours in a Covid ward with inappropriate PPE) or prone to having hyperactive immune responses, you have a very very low chance of dying, let alone requiring intensive care
Agreed. I can’t believe some people are throwing parties and going to Farmer’s markets. With the age of the internet, it’s very easy to be productive and/ or entertained while at home.
"Take some covide risk." You would be willing to risk the lives of others in order to help the economy. I do not know how anyone can have this view.
I think it is a reasonable point of view if you sincerely believe that more people will be killed by the economic damage than by the virus itself. Given the resources we have in the U.S., I don’t think that is something that would actually happen as long as we don’t completely fumble the response.
