The Easy A vs. More Networking?

I'm currently registered for a political science course with a very easy professor for the fall semester. I don't need the course but I find political science interesting. If I get an A in it, which I should, it will bring my GPA up from a 3.5 to a 3.7 (pending I don't fuck anything else up.)

Should I inflate my GPA or should I spend that ~5 extra hours per week sending out cold emails and networking?

BTW, I go to a borderline non-target/semi-target in NYC.

ws_doodstupid question.

do as well as you can in school and do as much networking as possible. its not one or the other

There's only so many hours in the week buddy. I'm asking the marginal utility of a block of time.

Do both, sleep less. Seriously. Get your grades up, and network harder. You have to sacrifice something. A few less free hours per day to jerk off online browsing wherever you browse is a small thing to forego for the certainty and future earnings of a good job.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

And if you get a B, you'll get a....?

tbh a 3.5 and 3.7 isn't that big of a difference. It'll seriously take you 10 hours a week for an "easy" class? Not sure if that's considered an easy class, then. Usually GPA boosters are the kinds of classes you can devote like 3 hours to each week ;)

My school has a mandatory attendance policy. =[

But yeah 10 hours may have been a poor estimate. Probably because I'm taking summer classes now and it's condensed into 10 hours per week in class and like 15-20 outside of class. Mainly, because I suck at calculus. Lol. I'll make an edit.

Damn that's harsh.

Take your 5 hrs for the class, get an A. Save another 5/wk for networking if you can't do the 10 hrs. Regardless, don't go without networking... And to the guy above who said suck it up and sleep less -- I wholeheartedly agree.

AlphaGenerationThere are three s's in college: sleep, socializing and scores. You can only pick two.
That's what people say, but I have seen many people who have successfully done all three. Depends on your level of time management; the average person without discipline will only be able to pick two. For the record, I only picked one because I was a lazy ass.

haha dont call me buddy..

giving you an honest answer... doing one does not exclude the other.

and yeah it is still a stupid question

Networking isn't exactly the thing you can just go out and "do" for 5 hours. As far as cold emailing you can do that in class; and as far as going to events if you really have to miss class you'll have enough excuses/friend to sign you in/whatever that you won't have to worry. Besides, you can still miss up to three classes. However, I really doubt that taking an easy class will in itself raise your GPA by 0.2 so if it were me I'd take a class that would actually be useful. We go to the same school...I should know haha. Also, as a general guideline, above the 3.5 mark, connections > grades.

Not a dumb question.
