The Wire
Curious if any of you guys have watched the wire. I have met very few people who have heard of it, but I feel like this is a forum that appreciates smart shows. If you have not seen it, let me just say I think it is probably the best show ever produced.
Greatest show I have watched yet, and I've seen a lot of good ones. Dexter, breaking bad, prison break, 24, the walking dead, etc. None have topped it yet.
Easily the best show ever created. Breaking Bad is a close second, but the amount of detail they go into along with really creative plot points and real world situations is amazing.
Who hasn't heard of the wire?? Great show. Any of you watch mad men?
^ Mad Men is great, too, but not on The Wire's level, imo.
The Wire is fantastic. Whoever hasn't seen it yet should go watch it.

That show was amazing. I spent a week watching the whole series online.
My brother has been telling me to watch it for quite sometime, but I haven't had time. Guess i should get on it.
The most amazing show ever created. Period. Although it's not reality tv, the scenes are so honestly realistic you actually think the characters are real. The dilemmas the characters face also feel real, and the solutions aren't usually right or wrong but "grey."
The Wire? One of the two best shows I've ever seen.
Disclosure: I am from a violent inner city background and it was incredibly relatable and surprisingly accurate.
Damn I want to watch it now too bad Megaupload was shut down...I'm pretty sure the creator of the show vowed to not make another season until the war on drugs is ended, pretty cool.
For me my two favourite shows come down to either The Wire or The Sopranos.
Im leaning towards Sopranos still but not by much,
the wire is the most overrated tv show in history. sopranos any day over the wire. watching the wire is like watching paint dry.

Love both the Wire and Sopranos. Sopranos probably has a little bit extra, in the sense that it has a comedic element to it that the Wire lacks. But the Wire is much grittier and I feel slightly more realistic (no reflection on the Sopranos though, more the premise and characters).
Wouldnt argue with 1 and 1a.

Arguably the best show of all time. Not sure if Breaking Bad will top it, but we'll see how BB ends.
I agree with you about the Wire being grittier but there are definitely a bunch of comedic scenes in the Wire. A few that come to the top of my head: the push/pull scene of the desk with Herc/Carver , when Herc asks the kid where he buys the sideways hats at, the scene where Bunk/McNulty only say fuck, tricking the kid with the scanner using it as a lie detector. That being said, I love the Sopranos just as much and if I had to pick one I think it would be the Sopranos, just much easier to pick up and watch any episode without needing any context.
Best show ever. Omar alone vaults that show into legendary status with everyone else playing their rolls too convincingly...
pretty sure the girl that played Snoop actually murdered someone and then even after The Wire ended she got caught in a big drug sting operation. that show was too real
The Wire is hands down my favorite show of all time. Unbelievable screenplay, you experience every character's struggle, you understand it, it is tangible and real. I have never felt as close to a fictional piece as I do watching that show.
The Wire is definitely one of the best shows I've seen. I thoroughly enjoyed Sons of Anarchy, which was very different than what I expected that show to be.
Great show. I'm in Season #3 and agree on Omar being a badass.
The Shield was a Top 5 show for me.
