this site is depressing...

Last January, I went through a pretty bad mental health crisis. I think it was mostly due to the grueling thing that is the IB recruiting process. After that, I kinda abandoned my pursuit of IB

Recently, however, I've noticed a surge of postings for IB jobs (I applied to some — who knows why), leading me back to this site... I've only been on here for like 20 minutes, and I'm getting reverberations of those terrible feelings. I don't really have a point other than perhaps that if you're feeling like shit... take a break from this place lol

It sounds like you're reflecting on a tough time and recognizing the impact that environments like this can have on mental health. Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not uncommon for people to feel overwhelmed or triggered by the competitive nature of IB recruiting and forums like these. Taking a step back when it feels too much is a wise move. Mental health should always come first, and it's okay to prioritize your well-being over career pressures.

If you're still interested in IB but want to approach it differently, consider focusing on smaller, actionable steps and leaning on supportive communities or mentors. And remember, you're not alone in feeling this way—many have shared similar experiences.

definitely agree. I stay generally in off-topic and the CRE forums, RE is decent and off-topic has been a wild ride the last few years.

while I've never been in IB, this is part of why I'm less active, gets super exhausting saying the same shit over and over and over again

OP & everyone else, we've all been depressed, your problems are unique to you so don't expect someone to understand. control what you can, do positive things no matter how small, remember comparison is the thief of joy, and always seek to better yourself (note this is not entirely a selfish pursuit because bettering yourself should include selfless acts)

WSO wasn’t always like this. Once the migrants from reddit and tik tok came over, it turned into a never-ending shitpost pity party.

Could not agree more. WSO used to be an almost inspiring place. Now the off topic forum is a circle jerk of shitposters and losers. The quality of the people who post here has fallen off a cliff.
