Few guys at work today (myself included) were discussing driving a Lotus as a daily driver. It was pretty split with half the group saying it was a douchey attempt at getting a high end sports car for not exactly high end money and the other half saying it was fast, looks cool so who gives a shit.
Any of you have a lotus? Thoughts?
looks are not too great. Kind of ugly to be honest. But driving its another story. You will love driving it but hate looking at it. How about saving up for a 911 instead?
I want to buy one and am in the "who gives a shit" camp. But am a bit worried about the preconceived notions others may have about me if I buy one.
The car is fucking ugly. Would never waste my money on it. Save it up for a real car (911) or stick with the Audi / BMW.
When I see those cars I think 1. Douchey 2. Wannabe 3. Bad Taste

You are not going to enjoy it as a daily driver. It stinks in traffic with its clutch engagement and suspension is too stiff for long drives. It is a fantastic weekend and track car though. I love Lotus and their F1 team
I meant to say this as well. I do not use mine as a daily driver and wouldn't recommend it.
I come from a family that has owned many Lotuses (Loti?). My dad and uncle both owned mid 80's Esprits. My dad recently purchased an Evora, and I own an Exige.
It is a different experience, and I only suggest purchasing one if you plan to learn and respect the history of Lotus. Colin Chapman had a unique perspective on automotive engineering and completely transformed Formula 1 racing.
If you appreciate cars for more than what others will think, it would be a great sports car to own. BTW the Evora definitely is not ugly.
