In NYC, like $200-$350K, WITH KIDS. Without kids like $150k-$200k
With kids I think money still matters after the point you mentioned, it's the difference between owning a house/condo and renting a nice apartment. I think the # is around $800k with kids, at which point you can own a nice house, put your kids through private school and college no sweat, easily retire comfortably, travel with little restraint, shop with no hesitation etc. Further money just goes into more sqft, brand names etc.
