Tolkien Black
Did anyone else know that Tolkien on South Park is actually named after J.R.R. Tolkien?
Am I racist?

You did not "just" find this out - it's a new thing. His name was originally a play on "the token black guy" and in the recent episode The Big Fix his father revealed he's a big LOTR fan and says that was his reasoning for naming his son. Know your South Park canon lore you casual.
You’re the problem. Everyone knows his name was always Tolkien.
Oh look, someone who can't detect a hint of sarcasm how charming.
It was always Tolkien, yes, but there was no canonical reference to J.R.R Tolkien until the episode I just listed. The characters father explicitly says in that episode that he named his son after J.R.R. Tolkien. Matt and Trey stated in interviews the original choice for the name was a reference to "the token black friend."
From what I understand, they actually went back and changed all of the closed captioning on all of the prior seasons before this episode was released. I think it's all a larger joke about (or commentary on) gaslighting with allusion to the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (the Ministry of Truth would re-write history and falsify the records).
