Traveling. Good idea?
Summer internship done, ft offer received. Doing an O/C and I'll be done a month before full-time cycle begins.
I have all summer internship money basically untouched, except for rent. This O/C pays 75% of baseline wage but it's worth it. Hopefully by the end I'll have around £12-15k laying around, if I keep myself restrained.
I thought about early payment of my loan but it's not worth it now. Grace period is over once I'm getting actually paid. So far as logistics go, everything seems organised. Also fully vaccinated.
I grew up really, really poor. Never traveled or had any kind of fun. Do you think it's a good idea to travel that month? I'll be going solo because I don't have friends, plus I prefer solo. If you think it's a good idea, how many cities should I aim for? How much should I set for budget?
Thank you.
not idea what an O/C is, but travelling is always a good idea. I suspect you are American by some of the words/spelling you've used here, and as you'll have GBP, I assume you'll be in London, so it will be easy to see a lot of Europe.
Off-cycle.
I would travel. From October 4 the RAG list will be scrapped and replaced with a new list. either RED or ROW. Check those lists.
I have no idea what those lists are lol. Looking them up now
Though I should probably say my classmate has been to Germany France Switzerland and Spain (as per ig posts). She's not really a friend so I can't ask her about details, but I assumed those countries are a bit lenient with quarantine & restrictions.
I have driven along those borders, recently. There are no border checks.
The only aspect would be how to exit and enter the UK, how to show your itinerary, last country you where, check the lists, etc
this shouldn't be a big problem
Save up first buddy! Trust me! Once you get enough then start travelling and racking up bills. Plus your company will pay for your trip if you are on a business trip! Right now you will probably face an abundance mindset dilema. And that mindset is your intuition so it will be right. Only travel when that amount is >5% of what you actually own. Do not start balling
Yeah sorry I agree with the world view part but I just suggest he save some for backup incase he needs it! Lots of people go broke by balling their first paycheck/savings
That's how I think as well. I looked up things with triptile lining up my target attractions and it's in £5-7k band
Assuming you’re in Europe and are young. The trains are so cheap. It’s like 7 Euros a ride in Belgium (and you can go across the entire country) and 3 to cross borders. Otherwise it’s like 20 euros for any slow train. Hostels are 10-25 a night but try and go places you have friends so you can stay for free. Museums are free for students or have a big discount in most of Europe, especially government museums. Places like Spain, Greece, Portugal, and Italy are dirt cheap, especially if you avoid tourist traps. Just buy something from a bakery for breakfast, eat 1 meal out each day, and eat a sandwich/baguette, a piece of fruit, and have a beer the other meal.
Best time to travel is while you are young and in school (aka you have the most time to travel). Preferably with friends too, but nothing is wrong with going solo. Once everyone gets FT jobs, it becomes much harder to travel at your leisure except on your 2 weeks of vacation or whatever, and coordinating that with multiple people can be difficult. That being said, money is obviously tight the younger you are so plan wisely
Travelling is always help to refresh your mind and to help your mind to channelise some positive energy around the environment. You get to know new thing about different places. you always explore yourself during the traveller.
I’m in your exact same boat, except I am currently a college junior. I am studying abroad next Fall, then backpacking Europe, SE Asia and Japan for 5 months. If not now, then when?
Travel Europe - stay in party hostels and you’ll have a blast. Most party hostels have activities for everyone and it’s really easy to meet people. Lock all your valuables in a locker.
I used one of those lockers in Tokyo Station before a flight. In a post 9/11 world, it blew my mind you could get that far into the station and just leave luggage without any safety screening, but then again Japan is a high-trust society I believe so it was really convenient option. I've never seen anything like that in the US.
