Value of Respect
Private equity is an experience, reps gained game. You have to get to the top before your opinion translates into decisions that actually matter and become actions. But that knowledge doesn't help much as you toil away to climb ranks and gain those reps.
So, in the meantime:
At what level did you really start to care that you were valued and respected in your job? Was it right away or after you had performed well for a while?
How much does it matter to you, ranked against compensation (e.g. if you pay me XX, treat me however you want), prestige of your workplace (e.g. I get to say I work at XX and don't care that no one there values me much) or other factors?
I suspect there is a stage of career, personal wealth or perhaps simply age when this quickly starts to matter more and more... seems to be happening to me and I'm curious how you other monkeys feel about it...
