What are SF and LA REALLY like
I know there have been other posts about SF/LA banking, but was looking for a general description of what these cities are actually like to live in. I'm from the midwest so would it really be that different to go move out there? I've always been interested in the thought of moving out west but I barely know anyone that has.
I was born in CA and have lived in the midwest for the last 10+ years. I personally prefer CA greatly to the midwest.
There are no seasons that way that you're used to.
In LA It gets hot in the summer but never oppressive. LA is really spread out and traffic is horrendous. SF is 65 with a light mist and fog almost every day, it has some of the lowest temperature variance in the world.
People are a lot more interesting and talk about things other than college football. If you're from the midwest it will be some culture shock to see openly gay people and lots of minorities around. If you are from a small town like a lot of my friends you will probably inadvertently offend a lot of people until you get used to it.
Funny, Lumosity tends to think that the people of Los Angeles are pretty moronic.

I don't know anyone in LA who loves their life. I know plenty of people in SF who totally love their life. I'm East Coast and have no plans of changing that, just passing on what I know.
any idea why you think that's the case?
I'm from LA and know plenty of people who love their life - it's a normal city despite all of the tired stereotypes. You can't overgeneralize the second largest city in the country. But since you aren't from California it probably will be easier to meet people in SF. A lot of transplants who move to LA find it hard to make any friends, which I think is just because they stick out like a sore thumb, but I guess it depends on the person. And in SF people live closer so if you meet someone you like, you'll be able to hang out with them, as opposed to in LA where they might live an hour away so you never see each other. @"LongandShortofit" summed up some other things perfectly. Anyway, California is simply the best state in the country to live in as long as you can afford it.
Also from LA. My big complaint is how sprawling the city is. Going anywhere of even moderate distance takes forever / a large effort, and forget about it if it's during rush hour. No public transportation, so someone always has to be DD unless you live within walking distance of the nightlife areas, and for that luxury be ready to pay out the ass. God forbid you live in the burbs as a young single male.
how is getting around on a motorcycle in LA?
Does that negate some of the terrible traffic?
I heard out in LA, dudes can ride in between cars. It's illegal here in texas, but we do it anyway, partially because the lanes are so wide out here.
if you have a bike here u can cut thru traffic and MORE than halve the commute time. just be careful because people drive aggressive in LA
How is the public transportation in SF?
How is traffic on the weekends in LA? Is it still bad?
LA is awesome without the traffic, I am recent transplant from NYC to SF. I like SF, but I miss NYC dearly. No city like NYC.
