What side of the fence are you on?

I was forwarded this email. Thought it was funny but true:

If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!

If a Republican doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a Democrat doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a Republican is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a Republican is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation A Democrat wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a Republican doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels. Democrats demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a Republican is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.

If a Republican decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A Democrat demands that the rest of us pay for his. If

A Republican reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh. A Democrat will delete it because he's "offended".

Controversial

If a Democrat is religious, he quietly leads his life. If a Republican is religious, he forces the state to adopt his own convictions against the wishes of others.

If a Democrat thinks a Middle-Eastern country has weapons, he looks at the evidence before moving forward. If a Republican does so, he attacks and calls anyone who asks for clarification traitors.

If a Democrat thinks someone is a Muslim, he respects his opinions. If a Republican sees a black Christian in power, he calls him a Muslim and uses that to rile up ignorant Americans who have no idea what socialism or Islam is.

I don't want any handouts, and I believe in lower taxes/smaller government, but denying rights to gays, women, Muslims, etc. and fighting useless wars that cost more than the health bill while being huge hypocrites =/= small government. Democrats have heir flaws but they have been 100x better at giving social rights to people than Republicans, and historically have spent less than Republican governments (that small government thing is a myth).

"If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life. If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect."

wow are you kidding me? How uppity of them to demand basic human rights to gay people. They need to know their place! You might as well say in the 1900s:

If a Republican is black and in love with a white woman, he quietly leads his life. If a Democrat is black and in love with a white woman, he demands the right to marry her.

I think these posts crystalize the vicious battle that's going on right now in America over politics. As a conservative, I see the world from the OP's perspective. That's how we feel and there's overwhelming evidence that there is merit to how we feel (I can give you a hard example for each item). The Left sees the world through this interpretation, which is demonstrably false in almost every respect. Down the line. There no examples of conservatives denying rights to gays, women, or Muslims. Even with regard to gay marriage, marriage was never the debated issue as marriage was always legal. You could get married, call yourself husband and husband, and engage in wills and other legal contracts and even buy a house together. The only debate was whether or not the state would recognize the marriage so that you could, I don't know, jointly file taxes together. Not recognizing gay marriage in that context is far less destructive of individual freedom than by the force of law coercing a Christian baker to create an artistic cake with a devil and a penis on it to celebrate a gay wedding.

As the to the war in Iraq, it was the lunatics on the far left and far right who were opposed to the war because even a broken clock is right twice a day. The Dems and GOP overwhelmingly supported the war. Every major war going back to World War I has been initiated by a liberal Democrat (WWI, WW2, Korea, Vietnam). History didn't begin in 2001.
