Career Resources
As far as just having a dream car? Any of the Ford GT40s. Absolutely iconic America car.
As a daily driver that's beyond my current budget? Volvo XC90.
As far as fulfilling my childhood dream? 1965 Lincoln Continental Mark II, purely for Entourage nostalgia purposes and it's a gorgeous car.
I love the large American cars from the 60-70s. As Doug would put it, I love their quirkiness.
Favourite one would be the boattail Buick Riviera.
Not a dream car, though.
It’s funny you mention the Ford GT. Doug DeMuro picked it out of the many cars he has driven. It must be good.
Matt LeBlanc too if memory serves. We all know Clarkson's big escapade with his.
Have you seen the Superformance GT40s? I've been lusting after them for years. Seems like the best way to get raw and classic performance without worrying about too much about the car. That Gulf Oil livery is gorgeous, too.
Yeah I'd definitely want a street legal one, but this is also a dream that will never come true lol
Realistic in 3-5 years: M340i, Macan GTS, IS350, Golf R
Reach in 5-10 years: CT5-V Blackwing, 911 GT3 Touring, Alpina B7, S63 Coupe
Idealistic: McLaren GT, 911 GT2, 760Li
Why the GT and not literally any other mclaren?
My list is far from exhaustive, I could fill a page with the cars I want.
I'd prefer to tear up the track in a Porsche, and have not sat in any other McLaren's yet. The 765LT looks to be the last hurrah of internal combustion, so I'd like to sit in or at least see one, but my GT experience was phenomenal.
Yeah, if it's McLaren it'd have to be an F1 for sure.
Your list is pretty close to mine. Right now I'm thinking of upgrading my 2014 328 to a 2018 Alpina B7.I'm also considering a 2022 RS3, 2018 Panamera or 2018 M5. If RS6s weren't super expensive, I'd buy one of those.
I'm a huge Porsche fan but the RS3 and M5 sound like really good options. Would prob go for the Audi since you'll have a warranty and AWD for ski trips. Might also be worth it to check out the IS500 and E63.
2022 RS3 is the dream
Current: BMW X3 M40i (have a dog and travel a lot with the missus)
Realistic dream in the future: Still debating between Audi RS6, BMW X5/X6 (m50i or above) or Porsche Cayenne (S or above)
Not as realistic dream in the future : Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, Lexus LC500
Aspirational at best: Lexus LFA
How do you like the x3?
Love it, easily the best in its segment if you're looking for a semi-sporty do-it-all vehicle.
Avoided going full X3M as ride is quite harsh for normal driving and the real-world performance difference with the M40i is negligible. The B58 engine, as many have lauded, is indeed a gem, pulls quite hard low down and has strong power delivery up until very illegal speeds, doesn't sound too shabby either.
The only other alternative I considered in the segment was the Macan, but comparably equipped, quite a price premium and is considerably less practical due to its size. Nothing really similar in offer by the Japanese or Americans, Q5 was dated in the interior, didn't like the esthetic of the GLC, GV70 was actually surprisingly good and great value for money, but performance was a bit... uneventful.
Have the X3 M40i as well - great car for the price and very happy with the purchase. Sporty yet functional, nice interior, and handles well. Feels like I have a sports car and less like an SUV.
911 4s and RS6 are pretty similar price wise, not sure why you think the 911 is unobtainable
Fair question but mainly not due to price but just where the car fits in my life. Definitely not at the point where I can afford a dedicated secondary fun car for the weekends (i.e. the 911) so I still need a practical car for most things, hence a RS6 as a sole vehicle is more likely at this stage.
I realise I didn’t actually answer my own question…
Here’s a lengthy list in which I’ll classify mine in three categories:
For 1: The innovation and transparent passion behind Koenigsegg would top my list. Literally anything they make; I’ll say the Regera as a single choice.
Also the Vector W8 is on my mind, but mostly because of the 80s coke Miami vibe. Oh, and it’s literally a fighter jet on wheels.
The Chiron, also, with a truly timeless design. I love the bespoke nature and their ‘Bugatti family’ events.
This is getting long, but the Ferrari SP3. I really love the retro-modern style. And the F12 TDF, one of the prettiest cars IMO.
For 2: The Stinger GT has really grown on me. The bang for the buck is surprisingly high. Quality is outstanding and has a striking design to me. A little bit further out, I’d say the new E63s; I like the beefier more squared design, and the interior is one you could live in. Stunning, both of them.
For 3: I love “do-it-all cars”. Bentley GT Speed would be one of them. Urus, although just a badged Audi, provides the Italian flare to an otherwise boring Q8.
765LT and Huracán Evo are my sportier choices.
Also, the 992TS is a beast. 991.2 really impressed me, I’m sure the updated gen would not disappoint.
These change often, and I think any car enthusiasts’ list does.
Fuck the image cropping
I believe this more than adequately conveys my obsession with cars.
These paint jobs are horrific.
They are funky, yeah, that’s why I included them.
I like them though. Especially the TDF.
You are the man I gotta say. I love the bucketing as that's how I think about this too as a huge car guy.
Only addressing 1, I gotta say the Regera is amazing and I agree with your choice. Don't really care for the vector as the one-off manufacturers don't really get me excited with their ultra-limited run of models to be honest.
The Chiron was something special I have to say because aside from it being an incredible feat of automotive engineering, Bugatti simultaneously released their limited run models like La Voiture Noir, the centodieci (based on the EB110), and the Divo.
RR has presence. That’s where their beauty comes from. Their opulence; their undeniable presence.
I just hate rolls Royce bc of their outdated infotainments.
Then again, I just love gimmicks like those in Mercedes’.
BMW’s new infotainment system is outdated? That’s what they put in the RRs these days no?
It's funny, I think handsome is a better word for a Rolls than beautiful. It's a very stately car, upright but elegant.
You just have to deal. If you think a C8 is bad you wouldn't even want to think of my Miata. (We'll save the stories about the 95 900 SS/CR for another day)
To answer the original question: 1991 BMW E30 M3 Evo II
Way too many others I will actually get my hands on to list.
Hemi-Cuda
Using your own categories you’ve listed:
1. Pagani Zonda Cinque (or any Zonda really). They’re not the fastest, most technically advanced, nor even the most badass- but I simply love them. I don’t think there’s another car that captures what a super car should be better than a Zonda. Other contenders: Ferrari F40, Enzo, Porsche CGT (what a beast), McLaren F1, 993 GT2.. as you can tell I like a little older era for this category.
2. I’m actually a fan of the Volvo XC90 and night get a used one when my current car dies. Used AMG Mercedes are super cool “bargains” if running costs were paid by someone else.
3. I’m absolutely a car enthusiast and a goal car is either a 911 Turbo S or GT3. I feel like these are the absolute best cars you can get for their price. Unfortunately I am not capable of DDing either one (it could be done but I’d worry too much). I think DD would fall into category 2.
As a fellow zonda fan, did you see the one Lewis just sold? https://drivetribe.com/p/lewis-hamilton-has-sold-his-pagani-N6M8YfnQSRq…
Gorgeous spec though I wouldn't have it in the purple given the choice. But damn it's a looker
Oh no way I didn’t see he sold it. I knew they made one for him but that must be a tough car to sell. If I ever achieve billionaire status I’d get one in a heartbeat (I think).
Agree with the f40 for a past gen car. The dream car to get today would be the Ferrari FXX-K or literally the F1 teams F1-75. Resto mod a gt40 with a carbon tub and hella hp could be wild too.
GT3 RS
I'm really into cars and have been lucky to attend the meet at the Malibu Country Mart lately. Have seen some insane cars like Koenigsegg Ageras, a Pagani Zonda, and tons of Lamborghinis.
Using your own categories I would first go with a Koenigsegg CCX. Amazing engine and design. Beautiful car and it seems like a beast. Similar level cars I like are the Porsche Carrera GT and Pagani Zonda.
More reasonably I would love a Jaguar F Type SVR or Mercedes C63 AMG. Sound amazing I've loved hearing those I've seen in person. Maybe a Porsche Macan, those are awesome.
In between that I would go for a 997 generation Porsche 911. Seems like an amazing car. Could be tempted to pick up a Huracan or 720S at some point. I had the chance to ride in a Performante last year and it was insanely fast. Fastest car I've ever been in.
If you're in SoCal, keep tabs on when Manny Khoshbin brings his rides into meets. The guy really has some special vehicles including several special collabs with Bugatti / Hermes / Pagani / Rembrandt and isn't afraid of sharing these works of art with enthusiasts at meets etc.
911t or 911r, s60 polestar, and cayman 4.0 gts are on my radar.

5-10 years from now it will be any car that doesn't have a built in camera spying on me while I'm driving, entertainment system that scrapes my text and call history, or a remote disabling switch. To anyone reading this and thinking WTF...? I live in the USA
im no car enthusiast or driver but presume that means something built / released around 2005 max? when did cars start having infotainment systems? appreciate 2010-15 models prob dont have any of this stuff either but i imagine the less stuff that can be "patched", "updated" or messed with with an EMP the better?
It'll be tough to drag me from my miata, but a friend and I are talking about splitting the price of an Elise (we do like 5k miles each)
Elise is fun.
How do you now Elise?
Current Car: 2021 BMW 330i MSport
Goal for 2024 - Corvette C8 Z06
Goal for 2028 - Porsche 911 Turbo/ GT Varient
Goal for 2032 - Whatever the current Lambo/Ferrari offering is at that time
End Goal: Bugatti/Pagani/Koenigsegg/effectively a hypercar...
I am confident in myself to achieve this goals and hope all of you are able to get your dream cars as well.
A passion for cars is not something everyone understands...it can be something that goes beyond logic, it's driven by passion.
SB for last two paragraphs + koenigsegg
Nice list. But I hope you realize that for your next two you should probably get on those waiting lists now. It's going to take you about that long to get them. Especially the Z06. The C8 list is about 14 months right now and I expect the Z06 to be about the same. Given that it wont start production for a little bit, getting on the list now sounds about right for a 2024 MY.
Yeah, it's going to be a rough time trying to get that car. Will need to look into getting a slot. Got to look into the "E-Ray" as well. idk, thinking about it now, might try going for the E-Ray. The list is very idealistic with gas guzzling super low mpg cars but electric is the move.
I have to say, thank you for your last sentence. I have felt this way forever about cars and I'm glad to see you recognize it too. Cars are not something which are simply tools from point A to point B. They have the ability to evoke emotions and excitement like nothing else we as people have access to. Don't mean that to sound like a car commercial haha but I really do think they transcend just being simple transportation devices.
I completely understand what you're saying. I really enjoy going to car meets and sunday drives. You get to meet great people and learn what people do in order to be able to buy their dream cars.

Curious about everyone's thoughts on the new BMW color-changing car?
As many cars built with the express purpose of being cool, it’s ugly, and pointless. Cool proof of concept, but stupid.
What thoughts could you possibly even have? It’s a concept car that just changes colours
Ideally a ‘65 cobra for the beach and a classic fj land cruiser for the slopes. If I had to buy a car tomorrow, I’d get a lotus for fun or anything made by toyota for reliability/practicality.
Also, convertibles are vastly underrated. As rich the kid once said, “coulda bought a crib, bought a drop top”… there’s something alluring about putting yourself in an open air rollercoaster for the down payment on a house.
I gotta point out the irony here: Lotus uses Toyota drivetrains yoinked from a Camry. That Camry will still win on the practicality stand though, no question.
No wonder I like Lotus.

that would be so sick
Ferrari 250 GTO
Otherwise Carrera GT
prob a restored thunderbird. switch out the engine to be hybrid lol
For my daily driver, I'd easily have the Mercedes-Benz 600 Grosser, a black Pullman with a red leather interior and whitewall tires. Chauffeured, of course:
If I could have a car for cruising the Autobahn, I'd go with the Ferrari F40 Le Mans -- this one to be exact:
For a little fun for the weekend, a Porsche 911 (964) Carrera RS 3.8L is just the right machine for me:
And obviously, no list of classic dream machines would be complete without a Ferrari 250 GT, especially the Series I Pinin Farina Cabriolet of Prince "Dado" Ruspoli:

The near(ish)-term plan is to buy a 67 Pontiac GTO in the next few years. I’m a huge fan of older cars and have always loved the old GTOs. If I want to stretch in that category, a late 60s Yenko Camaro would be the choice. I could go down a rabbit hole of classic cars though, would love to have a garage full of them.
If we’re going the egregious route for a car, I have to respect the Koenigsegg move. Personally, I’m a fan of the Agera RS but hard to go wrong with any of them. One that also has my attention is anything that Rimac is doing; some pretty interesting cars over there.
+1 for the classics. Prefer Mopars myself.

Yeah they are insane I would settle for a hellcat though bc even if I had the money I'm pretty sure its almost impossible to find people willing to sell
It's funny I used to want something bold and flashy like a 488 Pista or a 765LT. Now after owning a relatively flashy car I don't want the attention anymore and just want something more lowkey like a soccer mom car
a taxi or uber. So that some other shmuck is driving. I hate traffic, and being able to make calls from the back is so much better than white-knuckling in the driver seat. My definition of luxury is not having to deal with the hassle of insurance, fueling up, and leases.

For domestic production cars, I’m a dodge fan
Simply because I imagine their engineers were like “can we fit this viper motor into a single cab 6 speed truck? Fuck ya!”
and now they are all “yo bob, do you think we can shove that hellcat motor into that minivan? Bob: hold my beer”
Anyway, I’ve owned a lot of cars, but still a lifetime worth left to find drive and enjoy
Supra was a heavy pig (go a turbo RX-7) and the XJ220 was the worst of the 90s supercars. I like the rest though.
Agreed. I have an Rx-7 so forgot that one.
The XJ220 fills a bug nostalgia point. I had one of those pull back diecast XJ220s that you could race across the floor as a kid. Also had a big poster of one on my wall in the late 90s.
And to me, it’s a beautiful design with an oddball place in car history. (like the prowler to a lesser extent...a lot of people hate it but I love it) I also tend to think they are underpriced. (Odd thing to say about something that cost $~400k).
I saw a beautiful F40 in a private collection last weekend. I have a whole lot of want on that.

Any true enthusiast knows how challenging this question is. I have spent hundreds (if not thousands) of hours learning about different cars, and have gotten pretty deep into the car scene. I still couldn't come close to answering you question, but below is a "college-try" attempt. Keep in mind this is a truly "dream" scenario, and I dont see myself ever owning any of these cars.
If price were no issue, I would probably want three cars; one to track, one to rip as a daily (performance focused), and one to daily (liesure / experience).
Daily (leisure / experience): 1968 Chevelle. I am not certain this would be my pick, but as I kid I detailed one that sold for around $200k (or so the owner told me, I never verified). In hindsight I think he was inflating the price a bit, but regardless it was in pristine condition with under 20k miles on it. Washing the car and detailing it was such an enjoyable experience, and I couldn't imagine what it would be like to own such an insanely unique functioning piece of art. I am a sucker for a V8, and this would be hard to pass up.
Daily (performance focused): 2012 Lexus LFA. Like most of my car takes, this is an unoriginal opinion. As one of the most idolized cars ever manufactured, the LFA has such a crispy sounding NA v10. The engine noise alone is something I dream about. I would likely mod the fuck out of this car, and would start with the exhaust. I know so little about what options are out there for these cars that I cant be more specific.
Track Car: Despite watching almost every car I can think of being tracked, I still dont have a standout favorite. Therefore, like most finance folks, I would turn to the numbers. Im not a fan of the #1 and #2 nurburgring record holders (Porsche 919 and VW ID R) , so I would cheat and list two options for this category, the P1 and the SVJ. The SVJ is one of the most beautiful cars Ive ever seen, and the driving experience is supposed to be the best Lamborghini has to offer. On the other hand, the P1 is the P1, and its performance really speaks for itself (and has a better time than the SVJ). Gun to my head, I would pick the SVJ, because I think it is just simply to elegant not to pull the trigger on.
Honorary mention: they make an 1M with an S65 (cant remember who manufacturers these, but I believe they are UK based). Link here. This would be a perfect drifters car and would likely be pretty squirrely.
Current Garage: I am pretty content with my E92 M3. I would ideally hold on to this one forever and put a lot of work into it in order to make it a perfect track / street car hybrid. Havent done much yet aside from install a CF roof, AFE air intake, fixed up the engine (new rod bearings), replaced both throttle break actuators, and purchased some ARC 8 rims for it.
Future Plans for the M3: The real work will start soon when I supercharge it, install a custom exhaust, test pipes, tune the DCT, tune the engine, and order a bunch of carbon fiber aesthetic parts like a front lip, side skirts, and a diffuser (maybe even a hood and or trunk).
I used to be really into fast cars but realized there is really no point cuz the speed limit.
Now the list is something comfortable - Range Rover, Rolls Royce, maybe Rivian
Right now my list consists of anything I can get without some ridiculous 12+ month wait list! I'm in the market for a new sportscar like a C8 or a 911 but both of those are basically impossible right now. Even an Escalade (which I've always wanted) is either 6 months or some stupid dealer ADM added to the cost.
So, as much as it sucks, my current plan is to keep saving and wait for the madness to die down (economic crash?) and finally buy a 911.
I get the list for the Z06 you mentioned since that hasn't even launched yet but I'm curious: where are you getting the wait list time for a regular C8? Asking because I just ran an Autotrader search and there's over 125 for sale in 50 miles around me. That's brand new on the lot and CPOs.
My friend it sounds like you need some schooling on the corvette market! Start by calling those listings and tell them you want to pay MSRP :)
Theres 3 big dealers in the US that do not charge MSRP on custom orders. One of them publishes their waiting list and you’d be number 14xx if you signed up today. They get 100+ allocations from GM each month. So you can roughly estimate when you will see your car. Same list exists for Z06 but that one is variable since deliveries are still to come.
if that sounds crazy keep in mind that it’s still better than Porsche. I gave up on Porsche because you have zero visibility. Your name just goes into the “ether” and you hope and pay for an allocation.
Not a huge car person but the one I want in 5yrs is the Tesla Model 3, love the elegant design
Mclaren...any model really, but like a 720S or 765LT would obviously be the dream. Speedtail is like my dream's dream lmao. But yeah idk probably gonna take like 20 years for me to realistically afford any Mclaren model :/

use car wrap instead of car paint .Vinyl wraps are an increasingly popular way to personalize your car. They offer a wide range of colors and styles, and they’re easy to apply and remove. But what really makes vinyl wraps the best option for car customization? One of the biggest advantages of vinyl wraps is that they’re much less expensive than a new paint job. And if you ever decide to sell your car, you can simply remove the wrap and restore the original paint job. Vinyl wraps are also more durable than paint, so you don’t have to worry about chips or scratches. And if you do get a scratch, it’s easy to repair by simply replacing the affected piece of vinyl. So if you’re looking for a way to personalize your car without spending a lot of money, vinyl wraps are the way to go.

To me, Porsche represents the best performance car you can get for the money while not being overly flashy/ostentatious. They have done a great job staying true to their brand in terms of a focus on performance and function, but IMO have stepped it up big time in making their cars comfortable/usable as daily drivers.
With that said, I'd have to go with a Porsche 997 911 Turbo S as that to me was the last model with the "rawness" of some of the older 911 models. As far as a newer Porsche, the 992 911 Targa 4S is hard to beat.
