In my family growing up, family members exchange gifts on Christmas Eve and "Santa" came Christmas morning. Well, I found presents that my mom had stashed in my younger sisters' room and was super excited about them, only for them to show up Christmas morning "from Santa" as opposed to Christmas Eve from Mom and Dad. Between that and some older kids on the bus in elementary school, I put two and two together.

The coolest thing was knowing while my sister and brother and younger cousins did not. They'd all go to sleep and I'd help my parents set out all of the presents "from Santa," drink the milk and take a big bite out of the cookies, and generally hang out with my parents and older relatives. There is no cooler thing as a 9 or 10 year old or whatever than being "in" on an adult secret while hanging out with the adults.

Don't celebrate christmas, so I've known from a young age. I don't know why I still remember this, but in kindergarten I ruined christmas for this little girl by telling her Santa wasn't real and all the gifts were from her parents. I did, however, think the Toothfairy was real until second grade.
