When (if ever) will the public understand the value created by Wall St and our financial system?

I think most people on this site know how valuable all components of the financial system is to the growth and well-being of the country and world. When do you guys think the majority of the public will understand that, if ever? Is it simply too hard for them to understand, or do financial institutions do a poor job explaining themselves to non-clients? Seems like they have tried to be more transparent post-crisis, but public sentiment has not changed
