Where to live in Chicago for college grad

Moving to Chicago after graduation and need to find a place to live. I know there are previous threads on this, but they are a little dated. Open to roommates or living by myself and hoping to keep it under $1800 all in. The office is in the loop, but my main commute will be to/from O’Hare because I will be doing consulting.

I favor bars over clubs and enjoy nicer restaurants and areas. Thanks!

I mostly agree here. Old Town has some relatively nice bars that are probably the a little more upscale relative to the other locations, not including some of the spots in the Loop and obviously not the nightclubs. Tons of consultants your age will be living in Old Town, as the prices are a little higher on average, but not overly steep. When I first started going out in Chicago I went out in Old Town 99% of the time and had fun. Lincoln Park is a blend between 20 - 35 year olds, but the average age is probably 24-26. I think LP has a broad range of restaurants and some ok bars, and is arguably the best place to live, but has a pretty weak bar scene. Wicker Park is kinda hipster, but there are some ok bars there. West Loop is great for your commute but not for your bank account and has a weak social scene. Wouldn't recommend Wicker or West Loop. Lake View has awesome places at reasonable prices, but getting around can be a nightmare, and parking is simply not an option. Logan Square is alright. I would highly recommend Lincoln Park as it is the most laid back, River North if you're willing to spend a little more, and Old Town because of the number of bars in close proximity and people in your age range and field. River North and Lincoln Park both have plenty of good restaurants within walking distance, but River North will likely have some fancier places.

I'm reading a lot of advice in this thread that would have made sense 7-8 years ago.

If you're going to O'Hare once a month or more then you definitely want to live along the Blue Line/I-90. Check out Logan Square or Wicker Park.
