Working in finance (or capital markets as I like to define it) really isn't that hard, it just becomes a matter of time. If you intern for free, network, acquire the right knowledge and are flexible and mobile you will eventually find a shop that will pay you and give you the experience necessary to move up. Problem is it is only natural to go for the paying job and just move on.

 

You intern at a place and don't get paid any money. These are usually at smaller shops and are usually during the school year. I have interned for free at 2 shops during the school year and it really helps beef up your resume and network.
