Why are people such bots on LinkedIn?
I’ve thought this for a while but why is everyone such a robot on LinkedIn? Like it’s actually ridiculous. I keep scrolling and every post from someone in my network is them making some tacky metaphor about their industry / life.
Even people that are normal just become absolute creeps on LinkedIn. Like be normal. I get it’s a professional network but these people somehow figure out how to type like they’re chatgpt.
The comments are usually even worse. I have to hold myself back from typing sometimes.
It’s the corporate equivalent of virtue signaling - loudly proclaiming how hard of a worker you are and how you had to hustle to overcome the greatest odds to get to where you are instead of just doing your job well and showing it through your work is the professional equivalent of loudly proclaiming how moral you are as opposed to just being a good person. In both instances, the performance is more important than the substance, which is an unfortunate side effect of social media in general.
You rarely see the most successful people or the people who actually had to overcome the most adversity acting like that. They have more important things to do with their time, and if they are going to tell their story, they’re not going to do it just for dorky corporate social media clout.
Everyone thinks they’re the main character these days. Everyone thinks that every other person gives a shit about their online presence. With rare exception, no one does.
without a doubt, one of life's most important lessons
So true, It hurts
LinkedIn has become my (second) favorite social media site. People overlook how valuable the sheer quantity of cringe posted is as an endlessly renewable dopamine source.
Caffeine, nicotine, and cringe on my morning commute to the office are what help me ignore the roofless gentleman beating his salami on the other end of the subway car.
Please keep posting about how honored/grateful/proud you are to accept a part-time position at a regional traffic sign distributor. It’s good for morale.
Because they’re NPCs in real life.
