Why - Avatars

Why do so many people on here have avatars or names that imply they're the next Gordon Gekko or Patrick Bateman? They were created as cautionary tales/caricatures of greed and materialism rather than people to be glorified, yet everyone here seems to aspire to them. Do people not understand that those movies weren't glorifying those characters, or do they not care?

What society wants the average person to be is not something the above average person should aspire to.

What you don't know is singularity is really just a reincarnated Confucius.

.

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

Gekko and Bateman are just well known wall street characters. Both embodied the glamore and style which first interested many people I'm working on the street. I mean what embodies models and bottles more than Gordon in his whit cuff/collar shirts or Bateman rocking out.

Spacejam, better question is why do you love that horrible Michael Jordan movie so much to make it your screen name lol

This comes up a lot in conversations with my friends who want to know why someone would want to do "Wall St." now... as in "What do you think you're accomplishing?"

I have no illusions about what finance is/isn't accomplishing, but really - how many people out there are working a full time job curing AIDS, etc. - its a pretty small percentage.

Most of the kids in college, and the general public as well, end up doing menial jobs that "accomplish" = what the Street does...

Someone should make a 'cautionary tale' about your average disgruntled DMV worker - that would inspire some avatars.

For the same reason that your name is spacejam - ITS JUST A FUCKING SCREEN NAME

You probably think my username comes from the fact that I wake up at 4 am every day or that I was born in the year of the Rooster according to the Chinese zodiac, but you sir would be very wrong. I just like roosters. Why isn't that good enough for you?

I am a flying monkey with reference to the movie Wizard of Oz, as in "Don't make me release the flying monkeys", this is not a financial reference but an homage to the kind of effort this forum will do to protect someone's job, as in the case of Wow.... calling out the monkey brigade helped him.

TheRapistI agree with the OP. I don't understand how you people can be so tasteless when choosing something others will use to identify you.

Pure genius

Hilarious.

BTW, I've got reservations at Dorcia tonight if anyone would like to join.

honestly because they're idiots. taste isn't really that important in life (hard work is much more important) but taste is something you can't work at. ppl of average intelligence will always put racing stripes on their cars, knockoff logos on their clothes and dumb pop culture names as their sn for a serious forum. .

The next time basketball monsters steal the game from Charles Barkley, Mj, etc, I will know what to do, thanks to space jam. you guys underestimate that movie's importance.
