I'm going to enjoy this film. However, it's the last thing my Grandma needs to see when she knows I work in finance.
I'm just afraid it's going to make Belfort the least bit likeable/sympathetic, because he's not.

I can see this movie making him a new role model akin to Bateman, Gekko, etc.
I dunno. They were both the first personalities from banking people had seen, and subsequently, traders have been seen many times over, non of which made a huge impression. Further, they were worlds away from what people were used to at that time; now, people are used to this image of a trader stockbroker etc....

I go into a bit in my book. He and I never knocked heads, but I had the unfortunate privilege of working with a few of his crew. Fucking animals. And it takes a lot to shock me.

Wow they managed to turn a bad book into what appears to be a very watchable movie.

I don't think I've ever seen a bad DiCaprio movie, or Scorsese for that matter. And I like what I'm seeing from Matthew McConnaughey and Jonah Hill in the trailer.
I'll have to read the book sometime before this comes out.

He is truly a bum and disgrace to Wall Street in my opinion. If he didnt end up in jail and off the deep end not such a disgrace. But Boiler Room was good and I need to watch every Wall Street movie so count me in. But because he never could cut it and now sells himself to a book etc. is just bad..... There is a saying that if you sell research or a book, it is because your account cannot accumulate enough gains.
The guy in the french collar shirt looks like he could be Bateman 15 years after American Psycho, if he lived that long.

That's where you're wrong. Based on what's in the trailer, I can verify that all that stuff went on. You can't believe the kind of money this guy had in the early to mid 90s and the mountains of blow he turned it into. And he trained his guys that everyone on Planet Earth was a victim just waiting to be abused. We certainly weren't altar boys all the time, but Stratton Oakmont took it to a whole other level.
Where Meyer Blinder was self-aggrandizing (he actually had a throne you approached in his office), he at least wasn't outwardly destructive of the business and he actually was something of an innovator in his time. I'm trying to find the right words to describe Jordan, and I can't. It was like he saw what Meyer built and decided the best way to duplicate it fast was to just make everything a scam from the get go. He hired the absolute dregs of humanity, I'm talking about serious telephone terrorists, and he turned them loose on retirement homes. The midget toss absolutely happened and was a back-alley Wall Street legend for a time. Keep in mind the stuff in the movie is only the stuff he's willing to cop to. I'm sure there's a lot worse shit that happened.
He is pretty much the exact opposite of that. Brokers in the 80s and 90s were mostly frat bros who could sell. Now most of the successful people in finance are nerdy but it was a completely different atmosphere back than. I know a few guys who were brokers in the 90s and they are hyper aggressive and loved selling people and took joy in getting someone to buy stock over the phone, completely different than your average financial advisor working today.
Looks good, Dicaprio and Scorsese always deliver. I hope Dicaprio gets an Oscar one of these days.
I am having a hard figuring out how he made over 100m as a broker in such a short time. I mean he was head of brokerage, what kind of fees does it amount to ? Cuz I don't think his boys worked for free either.

Was at a hedge fund conference the other week and people were commenting on how Wall Street movie's often pick the least intelligent plot lines to showcase to mainstream America. How many pump & dump movies can they possibly make?

Hilarious visual notwithstanding, I think he's actually a pretty decent actor though.
