Work/Life Balance

Saw the thread in the IB forum and it's all pretty negative towards banking and the lifestyle. Due to covid I'll probably have to start in a different field and break in through MBA. I was willing to sacrifice my early/mid 20s but this means I would just be starting long hours in my mid/late 20's... Are the hours/unpredictability really that bad at the associate+ levels? How is NYC in your late 20's/early 30's?
