Yes.
I suppose conceptually it is easy, but writing something that is any good is a different story.
Yes, actually wrote one. See below:
The Pitchbook: A Banking Analyst's Tale of Markets, Millions, and Mayhem
Also, I made a post on the topic a while back but feel free to AMA on anything not covered in the thread below:
Q&A: I Published An Investment Banking Novel
My sister has self-published 2 books. One is historic fiction, and one is more Greek mythology fiction. She did a lot of research for both, and they took her years. They're both about 500-page novels. She hasn't made any real money though. I guess she could do a better job self-promoting on social media.
Interesting, yeah making money from them is far from my mind, but the external validation would be nice...and leaving a legacy
I similarly underestimated how much work the book would be. The first draft is super fun to write but to get everything tight and through ~10 edits becomes quite a grind.
With AI, it's probably a lot easier now. You can focus on the fun part and probably cut down a lot on editing and save some additional funds on editors / cover design if you are going to self publish.
Additional thought, maybe these are nice secondary benefits of writing a book but they are very bad primary reasons to write a book and go through that much trouble.
The only reason that you should write a book is because you have something you need to say or a story that needs to be told.
If that's not your starting point, the end product will be garbage and ironically will not provide external validation or a lasting legacy.
Yes! I've actually written an upmarket dark romantasy set in London.
Main character is a 30yo M&A lawyer.
Tldr got tired of reading about billionaire CEO romances and Romantasy that's just tropes.
I’ve kicked around a few ideas but haven’t started anything yet.
Writing a good novel or doing original research is a way bigger endeavor than meets the eye.
