MSc in IT Career ?

Hi all,

Next year I am graduating from George Washington University business school , Masters in Info. Systems Technologies. My main career goal is to enter management consulting industry, but with this non-target uni and degree I understand that my changes are not that high..So I am thinking of other back-up career pathways. I am interested in business/management type of career and absolutely hate idea of doing any develoer/IT back office type of work. Could you advise anything?

Thanks!

I graduated with a bachelors in information systems in 2010 and finished my masters in network security in 2011. Out of undergrad, I got a job in advisory at a Big 4. I thought I would love it but immediately hated the work. I was traveling every week 100% and I loved it; flying every monday morning, returning on thursdays sometimes fridays and living out of hotels and getting per diem was amongst the best perks about the project I was on (not being sarcastic at all in any way). The way I see it, in consulting you will do a lot of bullshit work, a majority of the work will be documentation, stuff a grade schooler could do.

If I am living in Excel all day, I won't be engaged and therefore the work will mean very little to me and cause me to be very disinterested.

The majority of the people I worked with were indian which I don't have a problem with but when they try to boss you around, act like they know everything and do very little work, thats when you know things are fucked up.

I left the firm in January and went to another accounting firm for a promotion and a large increase. I hate it at this new firm. I have been here about 7 months and am realizing consulting is not for me or maybe its just the accounting industry I need to escape. I have no desire to have an accounting background nor do I currently have one, I am strictly tech and only want to be strictly tech because I find that work engaging and it allows me to think and use my brain.

In a world filled with startups left and right, I feel I need to get with the excitement because those are the people who are creating the future.

If you are looking for technical experience, skip the big consulting firms and go to a technology focused consulting firm. If you are looking to get away from doing technical work and more of the documentation style work, by all means, apply to any consulting firm.

If you want to know more, msg me.
