1st year at MBB please help with some PE recruiting questions (On vs. Off cycle)

Started in Fall 2024, haven't been able to get onto the private equity diligence team, at my company. I want to recruit for PE but honestly just don't feel that my resume has enough MBB stuff to talk about (would love advice if I am wrong about this but have only done two, 4-5 week general pracitce cases at work).

If I choose not to not to do On-Cycle this June, am I closing the doors on a ton of good UMM PE shops? (in general I want to target consultant friendly UMM firms). Would love some advice from this either from people going/who went through the process or those in PE right now. Thanks!
