Top group or just okay group at the mid BB? Most importantly, where do people from your group traditionally exit? Some mid-BBs have a group or two that always places well. If no one from your group has ever gone above MM, or ever gone to GE, that will tell you a lot.

Both of those paths are possible, I'd encourage you to pick one though. No HH wants to hear UMM buyout or UMM/MM GE. The 3.5 will inherently get you dropped from some proceses but it won't totally preclude you from oncycle. Make sure you're prepared early as that was the real advantage this year.

top group at a low/mid BB. definitely agree that having a very specific interest to HH is the best route. I've scrapped going for MF or for "generalist" roles. Looking for more tech / consumer opportunities so hoping if I prep ahead of time that I can still get looks. previous exits in my group/bank are a mix of UMM / MM Buyout but they went to better schools than me

bruh tech/consumer are easily the 2 most popular choice with tech often being even more popular than generalist

If a 3.5 is the cutoff and the candidate has a 3.5 ........they made the cutoff therefore they have a good chance to get an interview and offer. The gpa cutoff is just used by the idiots in HR to reduce the amount of resumes. After that, it is relevant internships, clubs, networking. It is not like college admissions where the one with the highest gpa gets the job. I have seen people with 3.2 gpas get the offer over those with a 4.0 because they interviewed better. One made the group laugh with some weird joke and people thought he was cool. There is no exact science to hiring because everyone is different. You just need to do your personal best.
