Advice needed on what I should do... ultimate goal is PE

Hi,

Long story short, I am a sophomore with a mediocre GPA at a top-25 public school. My original plan was to transfer, but unfortunately, my GPA is not good enough.

I planned to transfer --> IB --> PE, but my father recently expanded a business he partially owns in another country. The business does well, but we are starting from scratch in the US. I've been helping him a lot in a bunch of different aspects and we have been communicating with industry leaders (very well connected, just not in IB/PE, go figure) so the business seems quite hopeful and has confidence around it.

Anyway, my new plan is now to work within as a leader/partner/whatever title you want to give it, then apply to a top 10 business school, and then work in PE. Ultimately, I would like to go back to the business and create a PE branch or separate entity and have it focused on that industry.

My goal has always been finance/PE because I do enjoy it.

A few concerns which I could use input on;

  1. What if the business doesn't work out and I am left with my hand in my pants? What should I do? I haven't looked at recruiting or studying technicals. I could forecast financials to give a reference lol
  2. Do MBA programs take students who have a path similar to mine (successful family business, not a Fortune 500)
  3. Do MBA programs accept students from top 30 public schools?

Also want to note that I know a good GPA is the first step to getting accepted. Fortunately, my GPA is improving. Learned that choosing your professors wisely matters more than your knowledge of the content the hard way.

Apologies if this was the wrong forum.
