Ardian Infrastrucure Interview

Hi, I have final round interviews with their NYC Infra team coming up for an off-cycle internship.

Anyone had experience they could share? Types of questions asked? Also, anyone heard about interns getting ft offers? Heard its rather rare.

thanks in advance!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights that might help you prepare for your Ardian Infrastructure interview:

  1. Types of Questions Asked:

    • Infrastructure investment roles often include technical questions, such as case studies or modeling exercises. For example, candidates might be prompted with a case involving materials like 20+ slides and given a week to complete it. While this is considered excessive, it highlights the importance of being prepared for detailed and technical evaluations.
    • Expect questions that test your understanding of infrastructure investments, key performance indicators (KPIs), and the drivers of returns in the sector. Be ready to discuss income statements and returns, as balance sheet projections are less common in these interviews.
    • Behavioral questions will likely focus on your interest in infrastructure, your ability to work in a team, and your long-term career goals.
  2. Interns Getting Full-Time Offers:

    • It is noted that infrastructure roles often have a more stable career trajectory compared to other private equity sectors. However, the conversion of off-cycle internships to full-time offers can vary by firm. While Ardian's specific conversion rate isn't mentioned, off-cycle roles generally have high conversion rates if you perform well and there is a business need.
  3. Preparation Tips:

    • Nail your technical skills, especially paper LBOs and understanding the drivers of infrastructure investments.
    • Research Ardian's portfolio and recent deals in the infrastructure space to demonstrate your knowledge and interest.
    • Networking can be a game-changer. If you have contacts at Ardian or in the infrastructure space, leverage them for insights and potential support.

Good luck with your interview!

They don't normally extend offers to off-cycle interns right after the internships. There have been exceptions in the past, but I wouldn't set my expectations high. For example, the guy that was hired in Milan was also fortunate with timing since someone had just quit and he was almost done with the internship. The guy in Spain was hired because the IM there was about to be transferred to NYC. NYC office will never extend an offer to stay after the internship btw

Idk if that's true for all the teams. I was part of the FoF team in NYC and they extended the offer

Infra interviews there tend to be a mix of technical + deal understanding + “why infra / why Ardian”. Expect basics like valuation (DCF), infrastructure-specific thinking (cash flows, regulation, long-term contracts), and some behavioral questions. FT offers for off-cycle interns are definitely possible but not super common.
