Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights on compensation discussions:

  1. 2022 Compensation Expectations:

    • An Associate 3 in IB-M&A at an Elite Boutique (EB) made ~$525k all-in last year as an Associate 2. Expectations for this year are set at ~$525k, with hopes for $550k+.
  2. Real Estate Finance Compensation:

    • Senior professionals in real estate finance generally have significant income, though it varies by market, firm, and cycle. Commission-based roles can be very lucrative once connections are established, but starting with a salary + bonus is generally safer for new graduates.
  3. General Compensation Trends:

    • Deal flow has been down significantly year-over-year, which might affect bonus expectations. Some believe bonuses will be slightly down to flat compared to the previous year.

For a more detailed and specific discussion on mid-level (VP, Principal, and Partner) compensation in Business Development (BD) for 2024, it would be beneficial to refer to recent threads or discussions on WSO forums.

It’s all over the place depending on size, geography, how seriously the fund takes BD, etc. As of 12-18mo ago, was testing the market for VP and saw ranges of $300-$450 cash all in, carry from $0 - $4mm DAW.

That said, it’s a tough BD hiring market right now but have seen a few folks make moves, and a handful are still breaking in from banking and other adjacencies.
