Bonus Pool Structure
Small PE firm looking to create a year end bonus pool structure for employees (under 20). What are some of the ways you determine how to distribute this pool among the staff - whether MD, analyst or office admin?

Curious to see what others have to say. As it typically goes, the answer is probably that it depends. Do you have a fund or do you raise capital for each deal?
I'm at firm that's smaller than yours (by employee count at least) and while I don't know the exact details, bonuses really depend on how we do that year (number of platforms, exits, add-ons, etc.) but that is more so on the upside. We aren't getting 0 if we don't close a couple deals.
I'm surprised that the bonus pool would change year over year, as the income coming into the fund is just management fees, which are stable. Why would the bonus pool change depending on how many deals you do that year?
Between funds so we raise capital for each deal. We also take fees when we close.
Ok that makes sense then
