You have clearly identified these two paths as respectable and sought after. Don't you think after a certain threshold of "impressiveness" candidates are assessed on other criteria? What's even the point of an interview for a HF role or application to an MBA if prestige-optimal backgrounds scaled linearly with competence and aptitude?
