Cancelling an Interview?

I have an interview with a fund I'm really interested in on Tuesday. I know for sure that I won't get it if I interview now (not being humble, actually unprepared). Should I still go and risk my rep with HH (gold coast) or better to cancel?

cancelling is also not a good look. id take the interview. initial interviews are usually less technical anyway

trust me HH interact w so many ppl i dont think it will be as big of a deal as you think if you dont advance in the round (often firms hire ppl they know / were referred anyways)

Based on previous WSO threads, here are some insights:

  1. Cancelling an Interview:

    • If you are certain that you are unprepared and will not perform well, it might be better to cancel the interview. This can prevent you from making a poor impression that could affect future opportunities with the same firm or headhunter.
  2. Impact on Reputation:

    • Cancelling an interview can have its own repercussions. As mentioned in the WSO knowledge base, backing out of commitments can lead to being blackballed by the company, and people have long memories. This could affect your chances in the future, especially if the hiring manager moves to another firm where you might want to apply later.
  3. Preparation and Honesty:

    • If you decide to go ahead with the interview, honesty and risk-taking can sometimes work in your favor. Interviewers appreciate candidates who are honest about their capabilities and who take calculated risks. However, you must still be prepared to some extent, especially with your technicals.
  4. Alternative Approach:

    • Consider reaching out to the headhunter or the firm to explain your situation. You could request to reschedule the interview for a later date when you feel more prepared. This shows that you are serious about the opportunity and are committed to presenting your best self.

In summary, weigh the potential long-term impact on your reputation against the immediate need to perform well. If you choose to cancel, do so professionally and with a valid reason, possibly requesting a reschedule. If you proceed, ensure you prepare as much as possible to mitigate the risk of underperformance.

Would personally ask to reschedule the interview - agree, it doesn’t look good, but def better than wasting it by showing up unprepared
