Career Steps After REPE Internship

Hope you all are doing well.

I will do my first internship as an undergraduate at a REPE Fund - size of ~3bn with focus on distressed and opportunistic properties.

I’d like to plan ahead so what should i target as next internships for which my current internship would be valuable and i would make the most out of it?

I’m interested in Real Estate obviously, M&A, PE, distressed debt, restructuring.

Any help in form of brainstorming would be appreciated, thank you.

Instead of looking for what to target, you should consider what you want to do, and look at what people did to get there. You have a historic opportunity right now where there's huge amounts of distress in hospitality and office space and booming residential, healthcare, industrial warehousing markets. Money is being printed in RE. Take a deep dive and look at the people working on deals in the space - REPE, rx bankers, turnaround consultants, lenders, credit funds, CMBS traders, whatever. Network as much as you can to learn about what roles they play and figure out what you want to do from there. While there's some overlap, RE / M&A / PE / RX are all pretty radically different day to day, so it's really on you to pick. IB is pretty generic, so can't go wrong there.

TLDR Just search on LinkedIn "Real Estate Summer Analyst" and filter by megafund or ivy. Hope that helps.

thanks that’s a good idea. Do you think REPE on my CV is relevant for M&A, PE and RX? Im worrying about pigeonhole me right from the beginning lol
