Corp Dev --> PE, via a Part-Time MBA (Australia)?

While I don't expect an MBA alone to be a silver bullet (networking is my main approach), I'm considering whether doing an MBA would significantly increase my chances of getting to private equity from corporate development.

Some quick background on me:

  • In my late 30s, married with two children
  • 3 years of Corp Dev experience, have led a handful of acquisitions; was previously an accountant
  • Considering a part-time MBA in one of Australia's top-ranked universities

I'm considering this for the following reasons:

  1. Develop my strategy and operations acumen via formal education
  2. Opportunity to achieve better academic grades than I managed in undergraduate
  3. Broad value in the industry - in finance podcasts that I listen to, many/most of the senior PE guests appear to have MBAs (albeit generally US-based, from top-ranked schools)
  4. Opportunity to expand my professional network
  5. Perhaps may provide exposure to on-campus recruiting

Interested to get thoughts from people in PE. Especially anyone with an Australian perspective. Thanks.

Bringing Up My Post.

More than happy to hear from non-Aussie folk as well. Every informed perspective is invaluable. Thanks.
