Direct Private Equity at Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP) - Exit Opportunities to the US?
Hi All,
I've heard that OTPP's direct private equity team is pretty solid as far as PE platform goes in Canada. I'm hoping to understand what are the exit opportunities from this group into the US banking/PE space. I did some research but looks like people rarely lateral out of pension funds, so would appreciate it if anyone could shed light on the possible exits from OTPP's direct private equity team into the states. Thanks.
People don’t lateral out of Canadian pension plans because the pay is very good and the WLB is also pretty good (relatively speaking)
have a friend in one of the pensions and he loves it there. says he wouldn't trade it for anything in the world to move down to US sweatshops - lifestyle great, decent city and living pretty good
CPP has sent some of their rotational analysts out to reptuable GPs, namely GIP, Silver Point, Onex, Ares, Apollo, etc…. Not to say that it's an easy jump by any means but kids going into FT roles at Canadian pensions are definitely getting more looks from headhunters than 10yrs ago. I'd imagine the same thing would be true for OTPP's direct pe team, especially since most of their deals are direct investments as opposed to CPP, who relies more heavily on co-investments.
