ECM vs PE for a dumb person

Currently in ER and am in the interview process for an equity advisory firm (STJ / Ondra / HL in UK) and a LMM Software PE fund (10 year track record, but decided to stay rather small with 600m AuM but also 450m new fund raised).

Don't plan on changing industries anymore after this move and was wondering in which industry I have higher odds in making it to the top as a "dumb person"?

I do believe that I have limited mental capacity yes. While im able to break into PE it seems full with people who have similar or even better qualifications than me. While ECM and equity advisory has some idiots on junior level. In fact, I would classify STJ as one of the best independent equity advisory firms in Europe. While the LMM/PE oppertunities don't seem like best companies in the respective space but have people with much better brand names (BB /ex UMM seniors)

I’d say stay in ER.

PE you will struggle to make it to the top unless you’re pretty gifted (think most people in this space get parked at VP although what do I know I’m only Assoc 1) and some of the most technical people I know were senior capital structure advisory bankers.
