Emerging markets PE

Curious to hear PE assoc. experiences at emerging markets funds and a few names I can take a look at.
I’ll be starting the on-cycle recruiting process soon and I know I want to do something emerging markets specific, but I don’t know the landscape of firms very well. Much appreciated

Brazil only, not in NYC. It's not like LT Catterton which has a latam focused fund, like I said, none exist. Yes, there are subs and dedicated funds but nothing exclusively on LatAm

Yup, but that's exclusively VC, which has been pretty strong lately. PE is another story, aside from Patria and maybe a couple others in Brazil there are no real funds, most that existed ended up winding down or are zombie funds because had trouble fundraising. I guess the macroeconomics of the region have a higher impact in PE than in VC.

(I am based in latam)

From the top of my head.. Gringo funds that invest in Latam: Lightrock, Temasek, Mubadala, GIC, Riverwood (growth), GA. Tourist investors who have done 1 or 2 deals like HIG and Partners Group.

Regional players: GP Investments, Pátria (ex- Blackstone), Vinci, SPX (originally HF doing PE), Treecorp, Kinea, Stratus.
