Endowment Case Studies
Interviewing for an endowment role and curious what to expect for the case study? Will it be similar to PE case studies, where instead I receive a fundraising deck and am expected to put together an investment memo?
Any anectdotes or examples would be very helpful
I'm not at an endowment but a multi family office that allocates similarly. I would think this would be an exercise of "should we invest" with this manager. So basically they will give you a bunch of background and stats on a fund/strategy/manager and let you do the due diligence. I've had a few like this and haven't had to go very deep in the weeds. Big focus points being track record, manager experience in the strategy and tenure (key man risk), knowing how the strategy works and would benefit a diversified portfolio, and identifying risks in general are important. Other things to consider but knowing those at a high level would be a good starting point on why/why not to invest. Hope this helps.
This person is right. Know the fund size, asset class industry trends, investment rationale, risks, investment strategy, fund diversification, team, and performance.
Excellent, thank you!
I'm also curious about how you sourced the endowment interview and what size it is? What is the interview process like outside this case study? I assume your background is in PE from your title so why the change to an allocator role potentially?
