ER Exit Ops to PE within covered sector

I’ve seen a bunch of ER exit op threads and I know the consensus is that exit ops from ER are mostly HF or AM… however in my particular case I am very passionate about the sector I cover within ER, but the public side of things and the short-term nature of the role isn’t what I would like to do for the long-term.

So, would it make any difference in terms of exiting from ER to the same sector but on the PE side. I understand the transaction style of the business and LBO stuff is different but would my already deep understanding of the industry be a big plus for recruiters or not really?

Why would they hire you when they could just hire an IB analyst in your sector coverage who has transaction experience
